Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgariens gamla huvudstad, flerfaldigt utn\u00e4mnd till Bulgariens vackraste stad och dessutom till Balkans kulturhuvudstad.
\nOch \u00e4nd\u00e5 har vi aldrig h\u00f6rt talas om staden innan vi pl\u00f6tsligt \u00e4r h\u00e4r.<\/p>\n

Redan n\u00e4r vi rullar in i staden med v\u00e5r minibuss anar vi att n\u00e5got stort \u00e4r p\u00e5 g\u00e5ng. F\u00e4rgglada gamla hus l\u00e4ngs en paradgata. Mer som Singapore \u00e4n Bulgarien! Det vill s\u00e4ga det som vi hittills sett av Bulgarien.<\/p>\n

\"\"\"\"<\/p>\n

Vi tumlar ur minibussen p\u00e5 stadens huvudgata. Rakt in i v\u00e5r lunchrestaurang. Vi \u00e4r sena, f\u00f6r vi har inte kunnat motst\u00e5 att stanna vid ett kommunistiskt mastodont-monument l\u00e4ngs v\u00e4gen. Har man alls gjort ett f\u00f6re detta kommunist-land om man inte stannar vid minst ett gigantisk monument i betong? Menade vi och tog oss tid.<\/p>\n

Men att vara sen \u00e4r ett problem, om man samma dag bokat lunch p\u00e5 den popul\u00e4raste restaurangen i landets vackraste stad. Det tar n\u00e5gon minut innan ett bord trollats fram. Med n\u00e4stan f\u00f6nsterplats.<\/p>\n

Tre-r\u00e4tters f\u00f6rst\u00e5s. H\u00e4r fuskas det ingenstans. Sedan \u00e4r vi redo att st\u00e5 \u00f6ga mot \u00f6ga med allt det d\u00e4r som vi anat genom f\u00f6nstren.<\/p>\n

En utsiktsplats uppenbarar sig och vi f\u00e5r \u00e4ntligen fri sikt ut \u00f6ver floden Jantra som g\u00f6r 4 ordentliga kr\u00f6kar under och runt staden innan den ringlar vidare mot Donau vid den rum\u00e4nska gr\u00e4nsen 5 mil norrut.
\nStaden kl\u00e4ttar dj\u00e4rvt p\u00e5 klippkanten.
\n– Som Provence, s\u00e4ger jag. Och t\u00e4nker p\u00e5 v\u00e5r dag med t\u00e5get Train des Pignes<\/a> till den lilla franska staden Entrevaux.<\/p>\n

Vi g\u00e5r en g\u00e5gata med hantverks-shoppar, parallellt med huvudgatan. K\u00f6per, faktiskt, faktiskt en sk\u00e5l. Vi brukar s\u00e4llan k\u00f6pa. Men hur kan man motst\u00e5 n\u00e4r den \u00e4r gjord efter m\u00f6nster fr\u00e5n gamla antika porslinssk\u00e4rvor som hittats i utgr\u00e4vningar? N\u00e4r man ser drejskivan i studion och betalar sina skrynkliga sedlar direkt i handen p\u00e5 damen som drejat? Precis som det ska vara.<\/p>\n

Sedan ser vi bef\u00e4stningsmurarna. P\u00e5 tre kullar fanns en grandios f\u00e4stning, Tsarevets<\/em><\/strong>, en g\u00e5ng en av de m\u00e4ktigaste i Europa. Delar av bebyggelsen h\u00e4rstammar fr\u00e5n 3000 talet f\u00f6re Kristus! I nutid har den restaurerats och \u00e5teruppbyggts. En magnifik entr\u00e9 leder upp till borgen. H\u00f6gst upp tronar patriarkens<\/em> kyrka, allts\u00e5 den allra m\u00e4ktigaste kyrkan i landet.<\/p>\n

Eftersom kyrkan restaurerades under kommunisttiden, \u00e4r den idag restaurerad till ett museum i st\u00e4llet f\u00f6r kyrka och inneh\u00e5ller kyrkm\u00e5lningsliknande bilder ur Bulgariens historia.<\/p>\n

Vi bes\u00f6ker fortet under sen eftermiddag och f\u00e5r njuta av den vackra platsen i mjukt eftermiddagsljus samtidigt som vi svettas i hettan p\u00e5 v\u00e4gen upp. Utan tvekan \u00e4r Veliko Tarnovo en av v\u00e5ra favoritplatser i Bulgarien!<\/p>\n
